I created a detailed lighthouse model for a Norwegian student short film called "Morgendagens Helter". All VFX aspects of this shot were done by me, except the compositing of the CG elements onto the plate. The director wanted a lighthouse that looked Scandinavian and handmade. I took inspiration from the fishing houses in my home town Grimstad in Southern Norway.
The 3D model was based on this sketch. To achieve the handmade crooked look, it helped sketching on paper with a cartoony style. The imperfect and crooked lines from the concept sketch worked as guides for the 3D model, which made the 3D models also look handmade.
Small scale test to see if the concept to 3D model process worked.
